Well, it was little to no wind but hey, even some people were consistent so there must be a trick to sailing in 0-3 kts. We didn’t have it figured out this time, but we will be ready for the next drifter.
Here’s a quick analysis of the regatta:
Here are the results. We ended up in 7th place overall, with a best finish of 4th:

The real question is what did we learn? In a nutshell:
1) Our starts suck. We’ve got to get more aggressive.
2) Pay attention to the competition and don’t foul. We fouled 3 or 4 boats this regatta.
3) If someone passes, see what they’re doing and emulate it. Sail position, sail shape, and crew position.
4) DON’T PINCH! Either fall off or tack. Pinching, especially in light wind, is the kiss of death.
5) Heel excessively in light winds. Insufficient heeling closes the main leech and stalls the sail.
6) Drop the jib in light air downwind legs to remove any blanket from the kite. (At least we did that right!)
The Flying Scot community has been extremely warm and welcoming to us and our goofiness with our videos and loud dress. But we’re having fun, and getting better. We hope you keep following us!
Here’s the 2024 Buckeye Regatta Video Playlist of 4 videos: 1 analysis video (~13 min) and 4 race videos (~45 min each):

Our next regatta is the Egyptian Cup in mid-June in preparation for the NACs in late June. As we said in our analysis video, we may not have any videos of the Egyptian Cup this year because we’re splitting up to learn from other sailors. But we’ll post our learnings and any video we may take.
Until next time, the Brothers wish you Fair Winds and Smooth Waters!
