2023 Glow in the Dark Regatta at Clinton Lake, Illinois

Glow in the Dark Regatta – start for race 2 (TACK FEST!)

Nearly 40 boats competed in the 2023 Glow in the Dark Regatta on Clinton Lake, sponsored by the Clinton Lake Sailing Association, September 9 & 10, 2023. Sailors competed in three divisions: Championship, Challenger, and Apprentice. All boats started at the same time with 38 boats on the start line.

Winds were shifty, puffy, and generally difficult to read and at times, frustration arose. We placed 13th out of 38 boats in total, and 11th out of 18 boats in Championship division (I like 13 out of 38 better!).

Here’s a “photo finish” of us in Race 3:

Never give up, Never surrender!

Winds were so low on Sunday that nearly 100 people voted to throw me in the water as a sacrifice to the wind gods. This did not help the wind, racing was cancelled on Sunday, and I think they have in mind to throw me in again next year if winds don’t improve.

Congratulations to all the competitors and to the winners. We can’t wait to see all our new friends at Whale of a Sail next weekend…or wherever we meet up with you. Peace!

Voted by the masses to get tossed in the water by Bruce Kitchen
We took 2,2,1 in the Wednesday Night Beer Can races before the regatta. Bullets are always nice!

We’re playing with the video editing capabilities of the Insta360, and have uploaded an “alternative” video of Race 1. Take a look: https://youtu.be/cNGOcMw9ff4
